It’s a wonderfully warm and sunny spring day. The sun is shining brightly, in stark contrast to the cloudy overcast days of winter. Today, I did my walking rounds luxuriating in sunshine. I recently read that if I can’t walk continuously for six minutes at a comfortable pace, my heart fitness needs attention. That took me aback a bit. Some days, six minutes of walking seems brief. Other days, it seems an eternity, especially when I don’t feel hale and hearty, or I don’t want to walk and it’s raining, storming, snowing, windy, hot, cold … I enjoy blaming the weather those days.
I had a funny, heart-warming experience today. It caused me to chuckle throughout body and soul—a great delight for my day. Waves of laughter shot streams of endorphins through me, bringing as much happiness as a person can feel.
I was mindlessly power-walking my daily rounds along my neighborhood’s hilly streets. It was quiet—not a soul in sight, and I looked for something to distract me from the cold weather and boredom. Continue reading
Once in a while, I wonder what parts of my body would say if they could speak words ears can hear. When I exercise hard, I know my muscles would definitely object. After jogging hard on an elliptical machine, my legs would surely speak. Me and everyone around me would hear a loud “Ouch!” —and maybe more.
My life experiences continue to expand my awareness of the oneness of both. I am becoming increasingly convinced that I cannot make the most of my heart health and my fitness by myself—I know I need others to support my efforts to boost them. Continue reading
