Calm Heart

YogaCalmHeartPose2Last evening, I attended a wonderful yoga session. It was so calming to me during this chaotic time.

The world seems to be in an uproar and it has me seeking ways to cope and calm my heart. Yoga is one of them. When the instructor described the calm heart pose we would do, I knew it was just what I needed.

She said to sit upright with legs crossed, rest the left hand across the heart, and raise the right hand at the side, with the thumb touching the index finger to form a calming hand “circle.” We quietly sat in this pose for quite a while. It was so relaxing, but energizing at the same time. But this energy refreshed me and my spirit.

I am glad I stopped running around yesterday checking off my hectic to-do list, and attended the class. The calm heart pose alone was worth it.

Thinking about this, I know my heart is telling me to back off from frantic doing and spend some time with restful being. It is good to be aware of what our hearts tell us. We can ignore their messages for long periods of time, but the heart always has the last word.

Now that I am aware of the calm heart pose, I know I can stop doing and just be in the pose at any time any day. I look forward to calming myself and my heart this holiday time. It is my gift to me and one that can last way beyond the holiday time. Me and my heart are grateful for these vital pauses.

What do you know about calming your heart?

I tried the calm heart pose, and it does work. I bet itt would work even better if I were in a circle of other people doing the same thing. Group calm hearts sounds powerfully relaxing.

Barbara, thank you for sharing your idea. I learned the pose in a group. We weren’t in a circle facing each other, but that would have magnified the effect.
